2025 Franchising Trends

Hey everyone, Giuseppe Grammatico here, your franchise guide, back with some exciting updates. I recently returned from the FranChoice National Conference in Houston, and let me tell you, it was an absolute powerhouse of insights and information! This isn’t just a regular conference; it’s a bi-annual mastermind where we connect with over 120 franchise companies, delving into the latest trends, challenges, and innovations in the franchise world.

As a franchise coach and someone passionate about helping corporate executives like yourself find franchise freedom, I was taking notes and looking for all the key areas that can provide you with the knowledge and tools to make smart choices. Today, I want to share with you the five key areas or takeaways that resonated with me the most during the event, so you can get a peek into what’s new in franchising.

1. Riches in the Niches: The Power of Simplicity

One of the biggest themes echoed by various franchise brands, many that provide business coaching franchises, was the importance of focusing on niches and keeping things simple. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of trying to do too much, but I consistently heard from these companies, “keep it simple.” Many franchise consulting companies are moving away from offering dozens of services and instead, opting to provide streamlined service in one specific niche, creating streamlined efficiency. This could be something as simple as just providing power washing services for homeowners instead of power washing, gutter cleaning, and window cleaning, so the business owner can truly be the expert and “own” that space. By niching down, these businesses can better train staff and more efficiently and profitably serve their clients and offer the best solutions. This also leads to marketing becoming more focused on 2-3 keywords vs hundreds, owning the market.

This takeaway reminded me of the importance of focus. It’s so easy to get distracted trying to be everything to everyone, especially in the business consulting franchise world. We focus on being a guide through the world of franchising and we need to continue to deliver that, it’s why we do what we do. Keeping a sustainable model, a simplified process with the best possible systems, ultimately provides value to you.

2. AI’s Growing Role in the Franchise Space

The role of artificial intelligence in the franchising process is really starting to make its mark. The big franchise brands I work with are putting their money where their mouth is and are spending millions reinvesting in AI technology to keep up with customer trends. These technologies are automating processes for lead generation, client management, and customer training using things like Google Gemini and Chat GPT.
We’re seeing it across many platforms. For example, AI-powered systems are analyzing real-time marketing data and then making automated adjustments to ads. If one platform isn’t converting, AI shifts the money and marketing effort to where it is converting. It’s not just about booking calls and automating marketing tasks but AI is also reducing the need for front desk staff through app-based booking, payments, and training with real time video. These tech improvements free up resources so you can focus on your main job, running the business, and allow you to make adjustments and scale much easier.

As a business franchise consultant, I use AI daily for many tasks but I still bring my experience as an owner, certified franchise consultant, author, and someone who has guided 1000s through this process. I want to be able to get all my franchisees the very best information and tools. AI may never replace us entirely, but the right blend of human connection and tech is the winning combo in the industry today.

3. Efficiency: Speeding Up the Process

Efficiency is critical when getting franchisees up and running and investing in a franchise can be very time and money-intensive. Getting a franchise operational and cash flow positive as soon as possible is priority number one, the big brands know it and are making it their mission to find every way to shave off time. I am talking to you about service-based companies that are not just aiming at, but achieving, a 90-day or less launch schedule.

To achieve this kind of speed, franchises are streamlining training to 1-2 week programs that occur 1-2 times a month. Some are immediately in the field the third week. Some even have a dedicated coach who helps you start and attends appointments to make sure they are able to start getting revenue right out of the gates. It’s a streamlined process using things like marketing, staffing and customer relations, allowing for business growth as quickly as possible, all powered by a strategic approach from a brand that already knows how it works! This has revolutionized the franchise business opportunity landscape, making business ownership even more attainable.

4. Support: The Power of Feedback

Ongoing support is crucial, but what’s really innovative is the growing importance placed on franchisee feedback. Instead of just yearly in-person conventions or just communicating through the “normal” methods of communication, now the biggest companies, some who have founders that are super busy with their franchise also now make time to make sure the franchisee knows the path and it feels collaborative.

I have seen brands with CEOs hosting weekly calls with their franchisees, sharing insight into how they should manage the business, addressing any pain points, and offering guidance. As someone that’s worked in franchising for many years, hearing from the leadership on a weekly basis or having them available on a group text chain or messenger group for ongoing collaboration allows the franchisee to learn directly from someone in the weeds. These companies also get feedback for system changes so that they improve overall the customer or employee experience, not only do the franchisees feel supported but that that brand actually cares and is putting a lot back in. Additionally, I am seeing more companies put the owners on the sales calls at the beginning of the franchise buying process to explain to potential owners the plans, trajectory, and the long-term business strategies, really letting them know that you are talking to the captain of the ship and that everyone has skin in the game!

And as far as new accounts for your executive semi-absentee franchise ownership, some franchises are employing people whose sole job it is to land national accounts at places like Lowes, Home Depot and McDonald’s for a streamlined new account sales process with instant revenue from name brand accounts at national levels.

5. Community: Together We Achieve More

Community is a crucial pillar in a successful franchise model. In fact, it’s one of my personal favorites. Franchises are really leveraging the community aspect more than ever. You not only benefit from an existing business model and brand recognition when buying a franchise, you are buying the network that comes with it!

I love seeing franchisees build communities and the fact that many competing brands are talking to each other is so powerful!

The main thing is making those key connections in and out of your specific brand, it makes business stronger when everyone can learn from each other and work together in the franchise space as opposed to being on an island. For those franchisees looking to exit their businesses the first call is usually within their current franchise, making it an easy transaction. And this spirit of community allows brands to communicate and make progress to move in lockstep on industry issues for a brighter franchise ecosystem overall!

Final Thoughts and How To Take the Next Step

As you can see, the franchise industry is constantly evolving. Whether you’re a corporate executive looking for a way to leave your 9-5 job behind for semi absentee franchise ownership or you are just trying to make that next move into business ownership this is some great information to know before you start your search. These five insights I gathered at the FranChoice National Conference highlight significant areas where franchise businesses are becoming more strategic, efficient, and supportive.
